What is better than informing young people about their democratic rights? Young people taking concrete actions to empower themselves and to adequately represent the voice of youth to local authorities.

This was the main message with which we successfully concluded the cycle of the Academy of Local Democracy With the energetic youth of Kavajë Municipality. The Academy of Local Democracy, held on October 14-16 and October 21-23, brought together young people from Kavajë Municipality and members of the Local Youth Council, who were trained on topics such as participatory democracy, advocacy and lobbying, structured dialogue, the roles and responsibilities of institutions, civic education, activism, participation, political rights, accountability, and transparency.

Based on the method of non-formal education, through discussions, group work, presentations, and interactive games, the young people not only became familiar with theoretical concepts and practical exercises, but also had the opportunity to learn about the basics of online activism as one of the new forms of activism.

Under the leadership of the team from the association 'Udhëtim i Lirë-Liberi di Viaggiare,' the young people had the opportunity to design their own online advocacy campaign, which will soon be showcased on our communication channels. This campaign will also be followed by a series of on-the-ground activities that will be carried out by the trained youth. These activities include organizing information sessions with the citizens of Kavajë Municipality and the city's schools, developing a mini-drama titled 'The Advocacy Game,' as well as drafting and conceptualizing a policy document that will include the main issues and recommendations raised by the youth, not only during the training but also in dedicated focus groups that we will further develop as part of the methodology for this document.
